The EVAG P89 is from the first series of Docklands Light Railway vehicles, developped by venerable German manufacturer Linke-Hoffmann-Busch (LHB). When the DLR built the underground section to Bank, they deemed refitting the old vehicles for tunnel operation impractical and some vehicles were sold off to Essen, where they are now operated by human drivers.
